ある日の日曜日。母の実家の飲食店は日曜祭日はお休みだったので、出かけて行きました。
すると、ネズミ捕りにネズミが掛かっていて、丁度じじ（祖父）がネズミを殺すところでした。
見るか？と聞かれ、なんとなしに好奇心から、見ると言いました。


じじは、カゴの上から熱湯をかけました。その瞬間、物凄いニオイが鼻を突きました。
吐き気を催すような凄まじい臭いでした。気が遠のきそうでした。
それでもネズミは死なず。じじは瀕死のネズミを取り出して、踵でゴリゴリ踏みつけて殺してしまいました。
以来、そのニオイと光景が忘れられず、厨房へ入ることが激減しました。


私はらーめんが苦手だったのですが、この時より更に食べられなくなりました。
じじの作るらーめんが、どうしてもネズミのニオイを思い出させるからでした。
