２日午前８時前、沖縄県宮古島市の東平安名崎から東北東におよそ４５キロの日本の排他的経済水域で、
中国の漁船が操業しているのを海上保安部の航空機が発見しました。
巡視船が現場に向かったところ、漁船は急発進して逃げようとしましたが、まもなく停船させ、
自称・中国人の船長を無許可操業の疑いで逮捕しました。
船長は「サンゴをとっていた」と話しているということで、海上保安部は、サンゴを密漁していたとみて、
漁船を宮古島海上保安署に移し、詳しく調べることにしています。
国内のサンゴの取り引き業者によりますと、中国では、サンゴを宝飾品に加工した「宝石サンゴ」の需要が富裕層を中心に高まっており、高値での取り引きが続いているということです。
中国漁船によるサンゴの密漁を巡っては、おととし長崎県沖で摘発されたほか、去年１２月には鹿児島県沖で中国漁船の船長が逮捕されていますが、沖縄近海での摘発は初めてです。
